AboutWeb was founded in 1998, bringing technology solutions and products to federal and commercial clients. The following year, it launched its first product, CareerBank, as a spin-off company. Soon after attaining its GSA IT Schedule 70 and becoming Microsoft certified, the company brought in more professionals to fully expand AboutWeb’s IT capabilities to include technology solutions, product innovations, and staff augmentation.
As the company grew its business and subcontractor relationships, AboutWeb opened a second location in Rockville, MD, which would eventually become its headquarters. AboutWeb won its first prime contract in 2006 with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), a relationship that continues to this day. During this time, AboutWeb began its first training services in response to growing customer demand. Two years later, this continued growth led to the company opening of its third location in Baltimore, MD.
As AboutWeb increased its relationships with government agencies and commercial businesses, it gained more certifications and contract vehicles, including becoming a federally designated HUBZone certified company in 2016. AboutWeb has translated our relationships into new lines of business, including new products and cybersecurity initiatives.
In 2015, AboutWeb formally launched the AboutWeb Cares program, which focuses on the continued growth of AboutWeb through training, community development, and economic empowerment. The AboutWeb Cares program provides paid IT training and free certifications to people from economically distressed areas.
In March 2020, Penacity LLC, a Maryland-based cybersecurity firm, acquired AboutWeb as a wholly owned subsidiary, creating a powerhouse combination of cybersecurity, DevOps, and recruiting solutions for this ever-changing world. Now, under the leadership of Dr. Timothy Schilbach, AboutWeb continues to deliver excellence in IT solutions to its federal and commercial partners.
