During this session the focus was on showing developers how to use some of the more popular web-based public data sources and open APIs in their Flex/AIR applications. How to create a Flex/AIR application that uses delicious feeds to create a Twitter-like app was also demonstrated. |
Feb 09′ | Wednesday, February 4th at 6:00 pm the Capital Area Flex User group assembled. During this session two of our own AboutWeb employees Jonathan Rowny and Phill Nacelli presented on “Lightning Fast Incredibly Effortless Typed Objects between Flex and ColdFusion. By combining a ColdFusion service layer and some AMF tricks they showed the easiest and fastest way to send fully typed objects between ColdFusion and Flex. Mr. Rowny also shared his knowledge on exporting word documents and rich text with Flex or AIR using the RTFlex Library. |

However, Adobe did not yet release the materials for that presentation. They were supposed to have sent them out last week, but that did not happen. That said they will try to have them out by Monday, so the topic was changed at the last minute. The current CTO at AboutWeb Kelly Brown will be presented on the Introduction to Adobe Flash Collaboration Service Formerly known as Cocomo. |

Mr Rowny discussed many different unit testing frameworks for Flex and AIR with a focus on FlexMonkey. He compared and contrasted the different approaches to unit testing applications and creating testing scripts. |

During this session one of our AboutWeb employees Hari Chinthalapale presented on Flexing advanced data grids with XML. This presentation walked the developers through a simple flex application that uses advanced data grids to provide side-by-side comparison functionality. It touched upon customizing advanced data grid control using item renderers and e4x for model manipulation. |
Nov 09′ | Wednesday, November 4th at 6:00 pm the Capital Area Flex User group assembled. During this session Chris Gross presented: Introduction to Potomac – the Flex Modularity Framework. Chris Gross, is the architect of Potomac, came by to discuss this new framework that is helping redefine enterprise modularity in Flex. During this session one of our AboutWeb employees Hari Chinthalapale presented on Flex for Business Intelligence. He covered tools and techniques in building dashboards using Flex. He reviewed pivoting functionality of the OLAPDataGrid control and explore integration strategies for data synchronization (event gateways, JMS etc). |

During this session one of our AboutWeb employees Phill Nacelli presented on Deploying your Flex Application with ANT proper software configuration and deployment can be a painful task. Development teams are constantly updating their code and often without taking a snapshot of the build and also manually deploying them to the different QA, Staging, and Production servers. Versioning and automating those tasks can save you a lot of time and headaches. This session showed you how to setup ANT with Subversion within Eclipse and go over how you can automatically compile, build and deploy your Flex Application across your different deployment environments. |

This session we were very excited to welcome Christian Cantrell from Adobe he presented on Adaptive Application Development: Writing One Application That Runs Everywhere. Christian demonstrated how to write an application that can run on seven different platforms including: Windows, Max, Linux, Web Browser, iPhone, iPad, and Android based phones. This is a very popular topic due to the expected turnout this meeting was held at the Legacy Hotel in Rockville, MD. |

He also explored an application which writes CSS and rendered it on the fly and utilizing a JavaScript framework to do real time syntax highlighting. |
