Essential Functions:
The candidate will work as a member of a team providing Linux, Red Hat, and Apple solutions at WRAIR/NM. As a member of the top-tier systems administration staff, the SA is expected to have a broad background in Linux, Red Hat, and Apple servers. As part of the SA team the position will be responsible for providing administration, monitoring troubleshooting, and resolving problems for the Linux Red Hat environment. The SA will support, develop, document, test, and implement engineering solutions. This will require a broad knowledge of enterprise computing and general networking competencies. Developing solutions will require applicants to have excellent scripting and automation skills to develop solutions for enterprise-specific solutions.
Essential Knowledge:
Applicants must have a high-degree of technical knowledge related to hardware and software.
Applicants must be skilled at communicating, in English, both verbally and in writing.
Essential Education/Certifications:
Technical Certification - Must have Security+ and ACSA (Apple Certified Systems Administrator) and RHCSA (Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator)
A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems and five years experience in this field is required. Eight years of experience can be substituted for a BS degree.
Essential Skills:
Must have strong team skills and a customer-support background handling complex hardware and software systems. Also must have excellent computer and customer service skills; strong verbal communication skills; efficient organizational skills; and the ability to multi-task in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. Must be a self-starter, able to work and learn independently, in addition to being a team player. Can-do attitude and time management skills are critical.
Hardware: An understanding of routers; firewalls; switches; hubs; bridges; NICs; WAPs; SAN; modems; firewalls; terminal and print servers; servers; desktops; laptops; motherboards; printers and scanners
Protocols: TCP/IP suite; OSI model; NetBEUI; DHCP; Ethernet; WAN/LAN; WLAN and WINS; DNS; Telnet; VLAN
Software: Red Hat Linux, Apple, Mac
Organizational "Fit" Considerations:
Must be detail-oriented, have strong communication skills, and good work ethic. Positions require flexibility in job duties stemming from occasional after-hours work as well as the mission environment created at the customer site. Must understand and enjoy providing support to a fast-paced operational enterprise.
